Creating a Pierre Bourne type beat involves understanding his unique style, tempo, and instrumentation. Pierre Bourne's signature sound is characterized by playful melodies, energetic rhythms, and a bouncy, futuristic vibe. This guide outlines 7 essential steps to help producers emulate his style effectively.
1. Set the Right Tempo and Key
Pierre Bourne beats often hover around 139 BPM, which strikes a balance between energetic and laid-back trap rhythms. The key of C minor is common, providing a moody yet melodic tonal foundation. Starting with these parameters ensures your beat aligns with Bourne's signature sound.
2. Use Playful and Catchy Synth Melodies
One hallmark of Pierre Bourne’s production is the use of bright, playful synths that create a catchy melodic hook. Choose synth sounds that are light and slightly whimsical, often with plucky or bell-like timbres. Layering simple but effective melodies helps achieve his memorable style.

3. Craft Bouncy Drum Patterns with Triplet Hi-Hats
Drums in a Pierre Bourne type beat are energetic yet minimalistic. Incorporate crisp 808 kicks and snappy snares with rolling triplet hi-hats to generate bounce. The hi-hat patterns often include rapid-fire rolls and occasional stutters to maintain groove and movement.
4. Add Melodic Basslines and 808s
The bass in Bourne’s beats is melodic and complements the synth lines. Use 808 bass sounds tuned to the key and vary their rhythm to create a groovy foundation. The bass should be deep but clean, allowing space for the drums and melodies to shine.
5. Incorporate Atmospheric Effects and Vocal Chops
Adding subtle atmospheric sounds like reverb-heavy pads or vocal chops enhances the dreamy, airy feel of the beat. These elements should be used sparingly to avoid clutter and maintain clarity but add texture and depth.
6. Mix with Clear Separation and Punch
Pierre Bourne’s beats feature well-defined instrument separation and punchy dynamics. Use EQ to carve space for each element, compress drums lightly for impact, and add reverb selectively. Aim for a clean, modern mix that balances energy with clarity.
